Racial Equity 2030

Creating Racial Equity in Haiti through Radical Transformation of Education

We will dismantle the legacy of colonialism in Haiti’s educational objectives, curriculum and pedagogy, while transforming cultural beliefs about who deserves an education.

Haiti was born out of the most severe system of racial inequity that has ever existed in our world: colonial slavery. Despite Haiti’s historic victory and abolition of slavery two hundred years ago, its education system remains the most powerful in a series of social and cultural structures that perpetuate the legacy of colonialism by reinforcing inequality and deepening poverty. We will create tools, resources and capacity to transform pedagogy and curriculum and make these available to all, ensuring that Haitian children receive the holistic education necessary to succeed in the world they live in today. At the same time, a massive national movement building campaign will create the bold and mission-critical cultural shift that is necessary for true structural and systemic change. The decolonization of education will radically transform the future of Haiti and all Haitians through wide-reaching social, cultural and economic impacts.
