Ongoing brutal gang fighting in #Haiti's capital, #PortauPrince is displacing thousands & cutting off access. This is the legacy of 10 yrs of US support for PHTK governments in #Haiti. It must end! #USHandsOffHaiti

Haiti's democracy has been dismantled over the past ten years. Only ten elected officials remain in office. This is one reason why we are asking the #USGovernment to let a Haitian solution to the crises emerge. Join us by signing the petition: http://bit.ly/3LJ6VsW

Haiti's current government has undermined the judiciary. Eight months after the assassination of the president, not a single person has been charged in Haiti. Read about arbitrary dismissals by @DrArielHenry: https://haitiresponse.org/hands-off

Dear ,

I am writing to ask for your active support of a Haitian solution to the current political crisis in Haiti. As one of your constituents, I hope you will carefully consider my request.

Haiti’s government is linked to human rights abuses and corruption. The US State Department published this  report while the US Treasury imposed these sanctions on Haiti for human rights abuses in 2021. Our own government acknowledges serious crimes committed, yet continues to provide support. In fact, Prime Minister Ariel Henry and the PHTK political party would not still be in power were it not for US backing.

That needs to stop.

Haitians have made their wishes clear. Only ten (10) out of thousands of elected officials remain in office since PHTK failed to hold elections time and again. Gang violence has become part of daily life. To protest these realities, Haitians have taken to the streets regularly to demand change.

Meanwhile Haitian civil society has been collaborating to forge a peaceful way forward. Unfortunately, with the US in its camp, Haiti’s illegitimate, ineffectual government can refuse to negotiate.

Please join other members of Congress calling for the US government to withdraw its support of Haiti’s current regime so that a Haitian solution can emerge.

Respectfully yours,
